A very special thanks to all our dance-a-thon fundraisers, volunteers, sponsors, community leaders, and local businesses who helped make the Friends of Thorp Fall Fest a huge success! A perfect fall day welcomed the unveiling of the new turf field at Thorp Scholastic Academy on October 28, 2022. The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by student council members, singing of the national anthem, and a hearty round of "Oh Thorp", the school song. Students of the Month were recognized and given certificates for their outstanding achievements. Then with Thorp students, teachers, admins, parents, and community leaders, including State Senator Robert Martwick (10th District), in attendance, the ceremonial ribbon was cut amidst cheers from the crowd, marking the completion of one of the larger scale projects since the installation of the playground.
Part of phase 1 of the campus improvement project, the construction of the turf field began in early fall and was completed by late October. The Thorp campus improvement project is a multi-year, multi-phase plan to beautify the outdoor spaces at Thorp, while giving the students a functional and inspiring space to explore, learn, and play. The new turf field and future campus improvements at Thorp will not only benefit the students at Thorp but the entire community as well. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the value of outdoor learning spaces became even more apparent and it highlighted the need for more of these exceptional outdoor spaces in the community. With a renewed sense of purpose, Friends of Thorp is forging ahead to raise money for continual improvements at Thorp. We're grateful for the enormous support Thorp parents and local businesses have given us and humbled by the hundreds of volunteers who have joined us throughout the years. More photos of the celebration may be found on the Friends of Thorp Facebook page. It's back!! Join us on Saturday, November 5 at school for Fall Family Photos!
